A thirty-something friend said she is getting her first mammogram. A mammogram is an assault on the breast that squashes it between metal plates, bursting fat cells and aggravating any pockets of inflammation while traumatizing the deepest layers of skin while exposing the body to harmful radiation. It is a brutal procedure in a brutal age where the healing aim of medicine has been mostly discarded for profit. The human is treated as if he or she was a collection of parts. In allopathic medicine, people are not whole ecosystems. They are cars with interchangeable parts. My seventy-something friend gets regular mammograms and she seemed compelled to mention it as well recently… there must be something in the water.
